From its inception, the Kern River Gas Transmission Company pipeline system was designed to be expanded to meet the growing and changing market demands for energy in the western United States. As the need for abundant Rocky Mountain natural gas has increased in Utah, Nevada, California and Arizona, Kern River has expanded its system to help meet that demand. Since its original construction in 1991, the Kern River pipeline has undergone three major expansions: 2001 California Action Project, 2002 Expansion Project and 2003 Expansion Project.
Kern River recently completed its 2010 Expansion Project and currently is working on the Apex Expansion Project.
