In addition to market-based salary, our compensation package includes incentive programs to recognize and reward outstanding performance. Our benefits program is designed to meet the diverse needs of employees and their families today as well as in the future. Following is a list of the current benefits Kern River provides to employees:
Paid Time Off
- Paid time off hours accrue each pay period based on years of service
- New employees receive two months of PTO accruals immediately, and additional PTO accrues each pay period after two months of employment
- Flexibility to build a PTO bank and use for personal situations
- Ten fixed holidays
- Two floating holidays
Paid Parental Leave
- Three weeks of paid parental leave during the 12 months following the birth of an employee's child or an adoption. Each week of parental leave will be paid at 100% of the employee's regular, straight-time weekly pay (excluding overtime)
Bereavement Leave
- Up to five consecutive days of paid time off due to the death of an immediate family member
Fitness Center
- Free on-site fitness center in Salt Lake City
Tuition Reimbursement/Learning
- After six months of employment, Kern River provides reimbursement of tuition and standard lab fees for coursework leading toward a business degree or course of study that relates to the business of Kern River (up to $7,500 per year)
Employee Assistance Program
- Professional and confidential counseling services
- Legal, financial and family support including internet services encompassing all of these areas
Adoption Assistance
- Reimburses parents for eligible expenses up to a maximum of $5,000
Disability
- Short-term and long-term disability coverage at no cost to the employee
- Short-term disability of 75% of pay for up to six months
- Long-term disability coverage of 60% of monthly salary. Option to purchase additional coverage at 66.7 % of monthly salary
Dress Guidelines
- Kern River follows a business casual dress code with casual Friday
Retirement Savings Plan
- Automatic, immediate enrollment for fixed contribution of 4% of pay, fully paid by the company. Vests three years from date of employment
- Company matches 100% of the first 6% of pay contributed pretax or Roth
- A variety of investment funds as well as a self-directed investment option
Medical
Kern River offers a choice of two medical plans:
- One plan is designed using a copay structure. You pay a copay, or flat fee, which varies by the type of medical service or prescription drug you receive. The plan pays the difference between your copay and the cost of the service
- A tax-advantaged health savings account is used in combination with a high-deductible health plan. The money you contribute to your HSA is tax-free and can be withdrawn tax-free if used for qualified health care expenses
- There are no waiting periods or pre-existing condition limitations for medical coverage. Berkshire Hathaway Energy pays most of the cost of the medical plan
Dental
- Choice of two dental plans
- 100% coverage for check-ups and cleanings
- Cavity repair, root canals and restoration coverage
- Orthodontia (for dependent children)
Vision
- The vision plan offers a choice of national service providers or out-of-network providers. Each has a schedule of benefits for eye exams, eyeglasses or contact lenses, and eyeglass frames
Flexible Spending Accounts
- Flexible spending account for up to $3,050 per year on a pretax basis to pay for medical, dental and vision expenses not paid by insurance
- Dependent care reimbursement account for up to $5,000 per year on a pretax basis to pay for day care expenses
Life Insurance
- Company-provided life insurance of one times the employee's annual base salary
- Supplemental life insurance in increments of one to four times annual base salary
- Four levels of spouse life insurance
- Three levels of dependent life insurance (up to $15,000)
Voluntary Benefits
- Employees can elect coverage for the following voluntary benefits: accident insurance, critical illness insurance, hospital indemnity insurance, legal services, auto and home insurance, identity theft protection and pet health insurance
Lifestyle Spending Account (LSA)
- Funded entirely by the company
- Money deposited quarterly and can be used for eligible expenses related to your physical, emotional, social and financial well-being
